About the appeal
The Esther Benjamins Trust (EBT) provides a refuge for 130 children in Kathmandu; these include the children of prisoners, former street children and child trafficking survivors. Most have been rescued by the Trust from a life of slavery and abuse inside circuses after having been trafficked to India. The current accommodation is in rented premises (which is costing a fortune in ongoing costs) and, most worryingly, is not earthquake resistant. Nepal is one of the world's most seismically-active countries and a major earthquake is now considered to be long overdue. From the start of 2011 we wish to buy land and build five child-friendly accommodation blocks, one at a time as funds become available, that are earthquake-resistant while at the same time increasing our accommodation capacity to 200.
Our mosaic picture has been drawn by Bimala, one of the children in our care, who dreams of a safe and secure home to share with her large family of friends. This appeal will allow us to buy land and build our first block and begin to translate Bimala's dreams into reality.
About The Esther Benjamins Trust
We are changing the lives of Nepal's most vulnerable children for good, rescuing Nepalese children who have been trafficked or displaced into India. We then provide residential refuge, access to education and vocational training. There are currently over 130 such children in our full-time care.Contact The Esther Benjamins Trust
